Book 5: The Dark Prophesy, Trials of Apollo

Book 5: The Dark Prophesy, The Trials of Apollo Book 2 by Rick Riordan This book fulfills the Book with an Imaginary or Excinct creature category on the PopSugar 2019 Reading Challenge. So, I ’m seeing the error of my ways in reviewing the second book in a series of four or more. (Rick Riordan hasn’t finished the series yet.) How much will I spoil Book 1 if I talk about Book 2? And honestly, for me, Mr. Riordan’s stories all run into one long tale once I’ve read the series. (And yes, I read Book 3.) How much of Book 1’s story can I sum up and add Book 2 and not have a ten-paragraph review? It ’s anyone’s guess. Here goes… I love a Rick Riordan book. Yes, I ’m over 40 reading teen fiction, but seriously, that guy can spin a tale. He is a master of pacing and story, characters and humor. I know every time I grab one of his novels, I’m in for a good ride. The Dark Prophesy was no exception. Except, I didn ’t love it as much as the first book in the series. Yes, we went on a...

Book 4: All Systems Red

All Systems Red by Martha Wells made me happy. This story fulfilled the “Book Set in Space” category of the PopSugar challenge. I read it in a day. (It’s a novella or the first fourth of a novel.) I read a great deal, but I read slow. Like a turtle’s pace. I use audiobooks to increase my speed because I’m a book junkie and I need more books. More, faster! Anyway, reading the first Murderbot novella in twenty-four hours was light speed for me. I loved this book. Funny story. I started reading it and nudged my husband. He ’s a reader too but sticks mostly to hard sci-fi books like those by Alastair Reynolds, James SA Corey, and Greg Bear to name a few. After two pages, I chased after Hubby, singing the praises of this adorable, compelling robot book. He sighed and smiled at me. He’s a very patient man. “Ginny, I’ve been trying to get you to read that book for almost two years.” I blushed and backpedaled and we laughed hard. One of our favorite tales is The Hitchhiker ’s Guide ...

April Books Preview

Hey all. Double post so that I can get this silly info posts over with. I totally over-read in January, February, and March. I’m still posting blogs for books I read back then. (Because I’m a slacker and keep forgetting to put up the blog posts. Hey, I’m new. LOL.)   This month I ’ll be reviewing All Systems Red by Martha Wells, The Dark Prophesy: The Trials of Apollo Book 2 by Rick Riordan (bc I love him), Still Life by Louise Penny, and Planet of the Damned by Harry Harrison. I always love a Rick Riordan so I ’m super hopeful about the Apollo book. I’ll probably hit that one on audio. I’ve heard all the buzz about Louise Penny and I’m excited to start her series. But then again, do I need another series to get lost in? I love a mystery though. I’m not sure about the Harrison book. My hubby is a huge Sci-Fi fan and I found this gem tucked away in a bookshelf. It’s short so…And then there’s Lost in Austen . A Choose Your Own Adventure Jane Austen book. Could life be a...

An Interlude

Hey all. So I ’m looking at my list of blog posts—those that I’ve written and the list of To-do. At this point, I should mention that I’m a very eclectic reader. VERY. In the past, I’ve stuck to one genre for years before tumbling into another and getting stuck there. Lately, I’ve been trying to read widely. I believe it makes me a more well-rounded person and author. And if you check out my List Challenge, you will see all the books I eventually put up for the blog. A really mixed bag. https://www.listchallenges.com/ginnys-popsugar-challenge-2019 My first three posts were Chick Lit, Classic Children ’s Lit and then a YA. Coming up, I have a funny sci-fi, kid’s mythology, and then a traditional mystery. I really hope I don’t give you all whiplash with this lineup. I’ve read more, beyond what’s on my list here. I love a cozy mystery, a horror, or just about any kind of romance. So in the interest of forewarning, I’ll throw up, I mean, I’ll post a list of upcoming titles each mont...
